The Gypsy Sons @ The State Theatre

Last Saturday night I had the chance to shoot The Gypsy Sons @ The State Theatre in Falls Church. I had never shot at that venue before but have heard it is really nice. Was I told right.

The Gypsy Sons opened for a true icon in rockand blues music Johnny Winter and I am sure the fans that braved the first snow storm of 2009 were not disappointed with TGS.

TGS started rocking right around 9pm and I have to say for a band to not have a sound check and just plug-n-play they sounded AWESOME. They rocked the crowed for close to an hour and I am sure that they left there with quite a few new fans.

I will be uploading images tonight but stay tuned as I will be hopefully shooting them more.

Patrick and Daron’s Wedding

Daron and Patrick’s wedding was a blast. Daron looked awesome in her gown and Patrick looked snazy in his uniform. The service was at a beautiful church but did not allow photography during the ceremony, so what does one do to ‘get the shot’ peep in the windows! The reception was at the old townhall in Fairfax and was really fun. I do not remember how many times I saw the worm performed or how many shots that the father of the bride took but I can promise you I would need extra fingers to count them all.

La Boxing and Sugar Han Promotions Boxing at ABC

Trigger Pull @ Champion Billiards

Champion Billiards in Arlington is becoming quite the little venue for local bands. They have remodeled to create a stage, dance area and tables that is going to make this one of the choice venues in Arlington.

Trigger Pull played there on October 30 and I was impressed, not just with the venue but with the “NEW” Trigger Pull. They played two sets of about 12-15 songs a set and rocked until closing time. They played all the covers that make you cut a rug and order another beer.

I had a great night shooting the guys from Trigger Pull and got to listen to some great music doing it.

Fairfax HS vs McLean

So last Friday night I had the chance to shoot my first HS football game, well half of it but either way here is my story.

I got to the HS early so I could check in and make sure everything was ok with me shooting from the field. I walk around taking warm-up picks, practice shots, check lighting, talk to a few regulars and wait for the game to begin.

The game starts off with Fairfax kicking off to McLean and had one of the hardest pops of the game that I saw. The game uptil half time was pretty much a back and forth battle.

Even with a slow start Fairfax’s Quarterback Jack Bechert has a career game with 153 yards with 4 touchdowns. Two of the touchdowns were to senior Alex Young who has amazing hands and at 6′1 is a great target. Running Back Anton Burns finished the night with 16 carries for 115 yards and a TD.

At halftime I went into the locker room and as the Rebels were celibrating as if they “just won the superbowl” assistant head coach Kevin Simonds put them in thier places and made them refocus on the game at hand. Coach reminded them that the week before Mclean was down 17-0 at the half and came back to win. I think his pep talk helped the Fairfax Rebels coming out and handing McLean a 55-17 loss.

A day off work

So yesterday I had to take the day off work since my sitter was sick and we dont have a back-up sitter. I decided to take that time to practice up on some of my portrait work. Since the only other person home was my daughter, she became a model.

Well sorry I haven’t posted anything in a while. I have been busy trying to get everything in order for a full on assualt of local shows. By that I mean boxing, mma, bands, weddings and anything else in life you can think of that you would consider a show.

I have invested in new gear, made some new contacts and is really exciting about making an end of the year run.

Since I have been gone I have shot Pro Boxing from the Patriot Center, Pro MMA also at the Patriot Center, numerous amature mma events around the area. And it is not going to stop. Karma Issue at Ri-Ra

This past Saturday I shot a local band named Karma Issue at RiRa in Arlington. I must say this is one of the hottest local bands I have seen in a while. The night was packed with covers and originals that kept the crowd dancing and singing along. No worries though there was plenty enough time for Oren to toast everyone several times throughout the night.

Valhalla 10 Collision

Valhalla Fights brought a packed card to the Dulles Sportsplex on Saturday night. The doors opened at 6 and the fights were scheduled to start at 7. With the amount of people that showed up the fights had to start a little late. That was no problem there were plenty of vendors on hand including Chokem, the US Air Force several others and the band The Gypsy Sons.

Once the fights started it was on!!! From the first round of Mike Butler who defeted Marcus McCain with an arm-bar to the 19th and final fight of the night Caleb Ball who won the Valhalla 170lb title over Tyler Hopkins with a TKO in the second due to elbows. The night was packed.

Operation Octagon

Operation Octagon at Hoop Magic in Chantilly VA on March 14th was a jam packed 17 bout, three title fight night. There was a packed house that showcased some of the best MMA fighters in the DC metro area. Every fight was filled with action for the entire fight including several tap outs and knock outs.
